A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured after he was thrown from his motorcycle Friday morning.
Trooper Jeff Williams was heading north on State Road 417 near Boggy Creek Road shortly before 9 a.m. when his motorcycle went off the road, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
The unit clipped a power pole before it overturned, tossing the 35-year-old trooper and sending the bike into a ditch, Sgt. Kim Montes told the newspaper.
Williams, who was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of broken bones and a collapsed lung.
Witnesses told highway patrol officials that it appeared the motorcycle had some type of mechanical issue as the trooper unsuccessfully tried to maintain control of his unit.
Williams has been with FHP for 14 years and a member of the motorcycle squad for a decade.
