A memorial service has been set for San Antonio Police Officer Edrees Mukhtar, who died this weekend after he was injured in a car crash.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Avenue. The service begins at 10 a.m.
Mukhtar, 28, had been with the department for 18 months, police said. He was responding to a routine call just before 3 a.m. on Dec. 10 when his patrol car hit a wet spot in the 3700 block of Medical Drive. He lost control, struck a curb and went into a side skid before colliding with a pickup, police say.
He was taken to University Hospital with injuries police at the time described as serious but non-life-threatening.
According to an accident report, investigators cited failure to control speed and failure to drive in a single lane as factors in the crash.
Mukhtar's family has requested privacy, police officials said in an email.
